    It all started as a munity of Sepoys against the East India Company. This move can also be known as India´s First War of Independence. The Sepoys captured Delhi.

    Gandhi great leader, and many people believed in him. The reason he gained followers was because of the actions he did in pro-nonviolence . He fight thier independence from the British in a peaceful way. He founded the Natal Indian Congress and opposed a bill to deny Indians right to vote.

    Nationalists were further inflamed by the partition of Bengal. Problems started and people were discontent. Because it was to large the British divided it into a Hindu section and a Muslim section. Each one had dfiferents beliefs so because of the disagreements acts of terrosims started between them.     People follow the muslims, this group was gathering a lot of followers. Gandhi organized a satyagraha campaign of peaceful non-cooperation to protest the law that required the registration and fingerprinting of all Indians living in the Transvaal.

    Gandhi was arrested for the first time in South Africa, because he refuse to have with him his identity card.

    Indian troops returned back home from war, witth a lot of expectations. They thought they were going to be treated like heros like British government promise them. But when they returned they were treated in a very different way like second class.

    British passed the Rowlatt laws. This law permitteed to put in jail to anyonw that protested, they didnt have the chance to have a trail they were send to jail directly for two years. . Amritsar Massacre war happened with the British against the India. British killed many indian families, many people were injured.

    The congress party declared the civil disobedience, the deliberate and public refusal to obey an unjust law and non violence, that meant to being able to achieve independence. Gandhi’s position in congress had strengthened.
    By 1920, Gandhi's position in the Congress had strengthened - and he added more spark to the 'Hartal Movement' by getting people to more intently boycott British products and encouraged them to start making their own clothes rather than buying British clothing.

    The Salt March was organized by Ghandi to demonstrate the government that they didnt agree with the salt acts.
    The British laws stated that Indians could not buy salt from no to other place than the government, eventhough it was a basic thing they needed to pay taxes.

    Ghandi started a hunger strike after being 8 months in jails. He wanted to protest to British to have a new Indian Constitution.
    You can see in the picuture how Ganhi took very sirously the hunger strike. We can see how skinny he is, for not eating.
  • Gained Independence

    After alot of suffering British parliament supported the government of India Act that provided local self government and limited democratic elections, but not total independence. Eventhough they were not satisfy it was the start complete Independence.

    This year Gandhi took action in the Quit India campaign as he declared India's independence from British rule. Gandhi was arrested for his subversive actions and decisions made. I decided to show this picture becuase Ganhi was their couse of indepencence.
