  • Benito Juárez Elected President

    Benito Juárez Elected President
    Benito Juárez was elected president of Mexico. At the time, Mexico was in deep debt to European countries.
  • British, Spanish, and French arrive in Mexico

    British, Spanish, and French arrive in Mexico
    Because the Mexicans were unable to pay back their debt, Britian, Spain, and France sent fleets to Veracruz, Mexico.
  • British and Spanish leave, France begins Conquest

    Napoleon III was fed up with waiting for Mexico to repay their debt. He sent armed forces into Veracruz. Britian and Spain left the area when the French started taking action.
  • Battle of Pueblo

    Battle of Pueblo
    6 thousand troops under command of General Charles Latrille de Lorencez set out to take the town Pueblo de Los Angeles. President Juárez managed to round up around 2 thousand men and sent them to defend. THey fortified the town, and prepared for battle. At the end of the day, aroundd 500 French soldiers were killed and the rest were retreating. Less than 100 defenders died.
  • End of the Franco-Mexican War

    Napoleon III began retracting his forces when his attacks weren't doing well against the Mexican forces and he started receiving pressure from the US.
  • Maximilian is killed

    Maximilian is killed
    Maximilian Joseph was also working with the French to take over Mexico during this time. During his "rein" he was the monarch of the Second Empire of Mexico. However, after the American Civil War, the US demanded that the French leave Mexico and started aiding President Juarez in evicting the French and Maximilian. He was killed by a fireing squad.
