Forrest gets drafted. He meets Bubba, who becomes his new best friend and gives him the idea for the shrimp business. He also meets Lt. Dan, who Forrest saves during the war. He fought in the Vietnam War.

Forrest meets JFK as apart of the National American Football Team. During this meeting, he eats and drinks a lot. Which causes Forrest to say "I have to go to the bathroom," while shaking the President's hand.

During rehab, after being shot in the war, Forrest started playing ping pong. He was asked to participate in Ping Pong diplomacy all around China and The U.S. This was a big accomplishment for Forrest and gave him something to focus on.

During a talk show, Forrest talks about Vietnam to John Lennon, inspiring "Imagine" almost a year later. John Lennon wrote this song and performed it as a Beatle. It became a hit song.

After being commemorated by President Richard Nixon, Forrest calls security while seeing men with flashlights. The man was snooping in the Watergate Complex he was staying at, causing the Watergate Scandal. The Watergate Scandal was a big event and Forrest was part of it.

Forrest gets taken to a Black Panther meeting with Jenny. The Black Panthers were fighting racism. They were also fighting oppression against Black Americans.

While sailing around with BubbaGump company, Hurricane Carmen hit Louisianna. During this time all other boats, besides the BubbaGump boat, got wiped from the shore. All the shrimp landed with Forrest and Dan, making them rich.

Lt. Dan tells Forrest that they invested in a fruit company. They didn't realize that it was actually technology. But it didn't matter because the company took off.

Jenny, who had done drugs, contracts a virius unknown to doctors. This marks the HIV/AIDS outbreak in the 80's. Jenny died after this.
