The Fish Hatchery was built in 1880. It was one the first warm water fish hatcheries. They had a fish car that was called Hawkeye and it took fish all over Iowa.
-
When they first started they spawned walleye, black crappie, buffalo, perch and ducks. But from 1893-1911 there were no fis hatched. In 1911 the Fish hatchery was redone to allow production if needed.

They made the fish hatchery we have today in 1963. Now they breed walleye, musky, tiger musky, and northern pike. They made another addition in 1973 to provide more tanks.
