    The 95 Thesis were the documents posted to the door of a church by Martin Luther. These documents stated all of the grievances against the church that Martin Luther had conceived.

    The Edict of Nantes was issued by the Catholic Monarchy in France. This edict granted French Huguenots, protestants, the right to worship.
  • English Civil War

    The English Civil War was mainly a cause of Charles I's unpopular reign. He heavily taxed his people, and when they could not give him what he asked, he disbanded Parliament.

    During the Age of Absolutism, King Louis XIV of France revoked the Edict of Nantes, which had granted French Huguenots their freedom. Of course this action led to major discontent and to the French Revolution.

When James II returned to the throne, the people objected and called upon William and Mary of Orange to come and take the throne. When he heard about this, James II fled to France, not wishing to meet their army.

    The United States sent Commodore Mathew Perry to Japan to open trade after the closing of their ports. The negotiations between Perry and the Shogun led to the Treaty of Kanagawa, which opened two Japanese ports to the U.S.
