Texas broke away from Mexico in 1836 during the Texas Revolution. Texas wanted to become a US State but we declined because we didn't want to go to war with Mexico. Later in 1845, we welcomed Texas as the 28th state of the US. -

Zachary Taylor was the 12th president of the US. He guided the nation during the slavery debate. Sadly, after only 16 months in office, Zachary Taylor died of cholera morbus.
