    Thomas was the third president of the United States. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.He also doubled the size of the United States.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was a deal between the U.S. and France. It was purchased for $15 million by Thomas Jefferson. The Land acquired about 827,000 square miles of land.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark
    Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition. They were exploring the land gained from the Louisiana Purchase. They started in St. Louis and had a successful expedition.
  • James Madison is Inaugurated

    After being Jefferson's Secretary of State, James Madison won the presidential election and became the fourth president. James Madison co-created the Democratic-Republican Party. He was the one to declare war on Britain for the War of 1812.

    The War of 1812 started because the United Kingdom was seizing US ships that were trading with France. During the war, the US wanted Canada so they tried to take them over. Nobody really won and everything stayed the same after the war.

    Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the US. He was in charge of the Indian Removal Act, which led many people to not like him. His Presidency was rough because he made many good decisions but he also made many bad decisions.

    The Panic of 1837 was the first depression of the US. It was caused by Jackson's law that stated, banks would not be enabled to accept paper notes as a form of payment. The depression lasted until 1843.
  • James Knox Polk is Inaugurated

    James Knox Polk was the 11th president. Polk was the youngest president when he first took office. He made Texas a state during his presidency.
  • Texas becomes a State

    Texas becomes a State
    Texas broke away from Mexico in 1836 during the Texas Revolution. Texas wanted to become a US State but we declined because we didn't want to go to war with Mexico. Later in 1845, we welcomed Texas as the 28th state of the US.
  • Zachary Taylor is Inaugurated

    Zachary Taylor is Inaugurated
    Zachary Taylor was the 12th president of the US. He guided the nation during the slavery debate. Sadly, after only 16 months in office, Zachary Taylor died of cholera morbus.
