  • American Revolution

    The American Revolution was a political upheaval that took place between 1765 and 1783 during which colonists in the Thirteen American Colonies rejected the British monarchy and aristocracy, overthrew the authority of Great Britain, and founded the United States of America.
  • First Fleet Leaves England

    The First Fleet of ships to carry convicts from England to Botany Bay sailed from Portsmouth, England, on 13 May 1787. They had to move the convicts out of their crowded jails in England to another country. The Americans did not let England take their convicts to the other countries they had founded and so England set out to find Australia.
  • First Fleet Arrives

    It arrived at Botany Bay, NSW. There was many aboriginals that lived in Sydney Cove and did not trust the English. The ship stopped in Rio De Jenerio and some of England for food and water. 20 of the convicts died on the way.
  • Second fleet leaves England

    In the second fleet had six ships; Guardian, Justinian, Lady Juliana, Surprize, Neptune, Scarborough. The three vessels left England with 1,006 convicts (928 male and 78 female) on board. England had to take more convicts over becuase their own country was too crowded.
  • Transportation to other states/territories in Australia

    Other states include Vans Diemens and Fremantle. Van Diemen had sent Tasman to explore the area in 1642. In 1803, the island was settled by the British as a penal colony. It was called Van Diemen's Land, and became part of the British colony of New South Wales.
  • England population reaches 10 million

    In the mid 18th century the population of Britain was about 6 1/2 million. In the late 18th century it grew rapidly and by 1801 it was over 9 million. The population of London was almost 1 million.
