    The advancements made by the Aztec Civilization in the 1300-1500s can be seen as truly remarkable. We can still see some of the remains of this civilization today. The Aztecs can be credited with helping us develop modern mathematics, calendar and even some medicine.

    Christopher Columbus sails the ocean blue

    Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic ocean to discover a new world. He did not land directly in American, rather the Bahamas. This can be seen as the start of the New World development.

    This colony of Roanoke was the English's first attempt to form a colony. Ultimately, this colony failed however, we can/did learn a lot from this disaster.

    Jamestown was the first colony created in the New World. Located in Virginia, this colony laid the groundwork for future colonies that would follow it.

    This was the first armed rebellion of the colonists against the British government. These colonists used weapons to threaten and overthrow Virginias special order.

    This North American conflict gave Great Britain great amounts of lands. This disrupted previous agreements and led to many unhappy colonists. The American Revolution can often times be traced back to this war as it got the ball rolling for many colonists discontent.

    This act was one of many that led to unrest among the colonists. The tea act enabled the British to tax the colonists tea and other exports at an incredibly high rate. This can be seen as one of the direct causes of the American Revolution.

    This declaration was designed for multiple purposes. It was meant for the King to be aware that the colonists were now declaring themselves an independent nation. This was also directed towards to colonists to inform them as well.

    This document in American History shares equal importance to the Declaration of Independence. This treaty ends the American Revolution indefinitely. It also states that the British will no longer have control over the colonies whatsoever.

    Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal act into law and it called for the removal of American Native Tribes from their land to federally claimed territory for them.

    In 1849 thousands of people rushed to California when it became known that gold was struck there. This westward expansion in CA led to it becoming a very populated region of the US and we can still see the effects of this today.

    This compromise dealt with the issue of slavery and territorial expansion. One of the major components of this act was the fugitive slave act which made it a crime to not return an escaped slave and made it so that it was a crime to help them escape at all.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision

    In short, this decision decided that even if he lived in a free state this did not entitle an enslaved person, to his freedom. This also decided that even though he was a citizen he was unable to sue in court.
  • Emmancipation Proclamation

    Emmancipation Proclamation

    This proclamation by Abraham Lincoln led the way to the abolishment of slavery. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free.

    Robert E. Lee surrendered in 1865 finally ending the Civil war.
