It shpaed America because it led to the birth of this country and allowed for all the freedoms that we still have today which many other countries dont have

    Eli Whitney invented the cotton Gin in 1793. This machine cleaned the cotton much faster than doing it by hand. This was important because cotton production wnet up and so did the demand for slave labor. Cotton output increased 8 fold. It shaoed America because it made the south more dependant on slave labor and made cotton a very important cash crop which led to more wealth

    This War between America and Mexico began over a border dispute. The Mexicans wanted the border to be at the Nuances River but the US wanted the border to be at the Rio Grande.     At the time the US was planning to build the Trans-Continental Railroad. The plan was for the railroad to pass through the South so the US sent James Gadsden to go buy a 29,670 suare mile piece of land for 10 million. This was important because now the railroad could be built which would allow for travel from the East coast to the West. It shaped America because now people were connected from the East to the West

    The Debate whether slavery should still be legal had gotten to very tense. When a tax was placed on Cotton the Southern confederacy tried to secede from the union. The North declared war on the South. The North eventually won after a long and hard fought war. The slaves were freed. This was important because the union was preserved and slavery was abolished. This shaped America because the North and South did not like each other and now that the slaves were free there was even more

    Establishment of the Freedman's Bureau
    In March of 1863 the Freedman's Bureau was established. The freedman's Bureau helped the freed slaves get jobs and helped educate them. It was important because it gave much needed aid to the recently freed slaves who needed guidance. This event shaped America because it helped the African Americans who have invented amny things we use today like the blood bank, potato chips, gas masks, etc....

    In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone. This event was important because it led to easier and faster communication. It shpaed America because now we have all these smartphones that we carry around with us all the time. You can talk to people on the other side of the country in a matter of seconds. Non of this would have been possible without the invention of the telephone

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    The CEA banned all Chinese "laborers" from entering the United States for at least 10 years. They required any Chinese who left the US temporarily to obtain certification to re-enter the country. This was important because it made immigration into teh United States much harder and it would supposedly help the economy because the CHinese would no longer be taking jobs from the americans. It shpaed America because it set the precedent for other immigration laws like the one in Arizona.

    Laborers in Chicago were on strike because they wanted an 8 hour work day. Then someone threw a bomb at a police officer and gunfire followed. 7 policemen and 4 protesters were killed and many others were hurt. This event was important because the Knights of Labor who were responsible for the events lost all support. This shaped America because we have 8 hour work days.

    The National Farmers Alliance got together in Ocala to maek demands to the government. Their demands were as follows: allow farmers to store crops in government silos when prices are bad; free coinage of silver, a federal income tax, and no national bank; direct election of US Senators; tighter regulation of Railroads.
