On the 24th of October, 1889, Sir Henry Parkes called a gathering between all colonies to discus forming a federal government for Australia.

Sir Henry Parkes convinced all the other premiers of the Australian colonies to discuss federating Australia.

7 representives from each colony in Australia came together and started working on an Australian constitution.

A 3 step proposal was offered to the colonies to achieve a federal constitution.

Sir Henry Parkes unfortunately passes away and hands down his work to Sir Edmund Barton (1815-1896)

Committees debate each paragraph of the draft constitution, changes were made and a new constitution was drafted. each state had the same number of senators.

All colonies except NSW chose to federate so NSW chose to discuss the concerns of not federating.
