The French declare war on Austria. They did this because they were scared that Austria would turn France back into a monarchy. This war happened because of the French Revolutionary Wars, which lasted 10 years.

France decided to abolish slavery in France and all of their colonies. This proved effective until May 20th, 1802 when the French government decided to revoke this law allowing slavery again.

John Jay officially retired after serving 6 years as Chief Justice in the Supreme Court. After this, he decided to run for president in 1800 but only received 1 vote. After this, he went back to his home and died of a stroke on May 17th, 1829.

John Adams was elected as the 2nd president in the U.S.. He served only one term, losing to the 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson, by only a few votes. His presidential time was rough because he served during the French and British War. This was tough because U.S. trade was slow and uneconomical.
