Proclamation of Neutrality

Proclamation of Neutrality was issued by President Washington. This Proclamation made the United States not get in between other troubles with other natons.

XYZ Affairs

The French foreign minister sent three agents (X,Y, and Z) by Americans to demand a payment of money from the Americans before French officials would agree to meet them. Many Americans were insulted and saw this as bribery.

Convention of 1800

After the XYZ Affair there was some tension between France and the United States. The Convention of 1800 was an agreement that was going to stop the growing hostilities between the United States and France.

The Louisiana Purchase

The Louisiana Purchase was the largest land purchase that the United States had ever made. The size of the country doubled just by this one purchase. President Jefferson brought the Louisiana territory from Napoleon of France.

Embargo Act

The Embargo Act stopped all trade between America and any other country. President Jefferson felt that this would avid international problems.

War of 1812

The British policy of impressment caused a major war to break out between the United States and Great Britain. The Americans also one this war. The war ended in 1814.

Treaty of Ghent

This Treaty officially ended the War of 1812. Great Britain agreed to give up the claims of the Northwest Territory.

Mondroe Doctrine

This warned European nations not to get involved in political affairs in Central and South America. The Doctrine was intended to show that the United States was the only country that could influence political affairs.
