  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    After the end of the French and Indian War, Americans were free to expand in its territories with minimal threats. However, the Proclamation of 1763 denied colonists the right to expand. This was just the beginning of tight leash the British put on the colonists.

    In the year of 1765, Mr. Theodore Atkinson Jr. paid for his wife's portrait to be painted by Mr. John Singleton Copley.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was the first direct tax placed on the colonists by the British. This tax was one of the main causes of the Revolutionary War and America gaining its Independence. Without this tax, Americans could possibly be under British control still.

    America officially declares its Indpendence from Great Britain. This allows for America to expand into the Frontier physically, but also politically. With its own federal government, America was able to make their own decisions on behalf of their people.

    After the fall of Napoleon, the United States pruchased enough French territory to double the United States in size, and allowed for Americans to spread out fill up more lands.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    In late 1823, the Monroe Doctrine was written to establish the United States as a major political power and financial trader. In addition, the United States was seen as a threat if an outside party was to mess with North America.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold was discovered in California in early January of 1848. Many Americans packed up their things and moved west in hopes of striking rich.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    In February of 1848, the treat of Guadalupe Hidalgo is signed, ending the Mexican-American War. In the treaty, Mexico signs over most of the west coast to Americans. This allowed for Americans to expand even farther westward once again. American territory now rreaches from east coast to west coast.

  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    In 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote and published Uncle Tom's Cabin, which exposed the evils of slavery. This novel bought the South's wrongs to light, and showed how the South was conquering the Frontier by conquering slaves.

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This act allows for the people of the Kansas and Nebraska territories to decide whether they want slavery in their borders or not. This was expanding politically because it allowed for popular sovereignty, but it led to bloodshed and mass immigration to influence the vote.
