WHEN: The revolution started on October 1st, 1949.
WHO: People's Republic of China.
WHAT: When the People's Republic of China was formed, a group of people broke away to be part of a democratic system instead.
HOW: This created a divided China. -
WHEN: The Korean war started on June 24th, 1950 and it continued until November of 1950 when the land was split evenly between North and South Korea.
WHO: North Korea, South Korea, UN, China, and the United States.
WHAT: On June 25th, 1950 North Korean troo[ps started the Korean War by invading South Korea. When news of the invasion reached President Truman he ordered naval and air support for South Korea.
HOW: At the conclusion of the war 16 naitons sent 520,000 troops to assist South Korea. -
WHEN:1957
WHO: The Soviet Union.
WHAT: The Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first sucessful space satellite.
HOW: This satellite allowed the Soviet Union to be ahead in technology; however the United States caught up eventually. -
WHEN: May 1st, 1960.
WHO: Khrushchev and Eisenhower.
WHAT: A U2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union.
HOW: This was the most dramatic moments of the cold war. Khrushchev found the wreckage and the very much alive pilot. Eisenhower had to publically admit that it was indeed a US spy plane. -
WHEN: On 13th August, 1961
WHO: East German troops.
WHAT:Troops in East Germany put up the berlin wall over night; dividing east and west Berlin. This was bulit to shut off the escape route for thousands of east refugees.
HOW: The wall increased Cold War tensions. -
WHEN: October 14th - 28th.
WHO: United States and the Soviets.
WHAT:On October 14th, 1962 pictures taken by U-2 planes provided President Kennedy with eviedence that the Soviets were building missile bases in Cuba.
HOW: The crisis damaged both Kennedy and Khrushev's image. -
WHEN: August 20, 1968- April 17, 1969
WHO: Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, East Germany, and Poland.
WHAT: In the 1950's Czech started leading into corruption because of high labor turnover, low productivity, and poor product quality. In 1968 they replaced their current leader with Alexander Dubbeck. On August 20th, 1968 troops from Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, East Germany, and Poland occupied Czechoslovakia.
HOW: Czechoslovakia was heading into corruption before the invasion. -
WHEN: December 25th,1979- February 15th,1989.
WHO: Soviet led Afghan forces and a group called Mujahideen.
WHAT: This group recieved military training, weapons , and large amountsof money from the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.
