The discovery of America really shaped our country because if we had never found it we probably would still be in England and a big part of the Revolutionary war was the geography of us being so far away and Britain wanting to still control us -
Jamestown
This was the first successful settlement in America and it shaped our country because this was where we started taking land from the Native Americans -
First Slaves brought to Jamestown
This event is important because it is the first time slaves were brought to America. It shows how ingrained slavery was in the American way of life and how it was here from the beginning making us dependent on it. This paves the way for the American Civil War. -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was the first document in America that established self-government. It also showed that we were capable of ruling ourselves with Great Britain. -
Boston Massacre
This event is significant because it gets colonists very angry and makes them start to rebel even more against the British and see them as enemies. -
Boston Tea Party
This was the first time the colonist took a stand against the British for the taxes they were imposing on them. This causes tensions to rise between the colonist and the British. -
Intolerable Acts
These acts were made to punish the colonist for the Boston Tea party. These pushed the colonist over the edge making them want their freedom even more. -
1st Continental Congress
This was the first time the colonies collectively met and discuss what to do about the British and what measures to take against them. Although this congress failed we preserved and gained our freedom -
Battle of Concord
This was the battle that began the Revolutionary War. This is significant because it is the start of a war that will make us independent. -
Declaration of Independence
This was probably one of the most significant events because it is when we declared that we would no longer be under British rule and from here on rule ourselves. This signifies the end of the war and that we won. -
Constitution
This was our first set of laws that we would use as the foundation of our country. It declared that we would be a democracy and be fair and just -
Bill of Rights
This event is significant because it gave the states the rights they wanted and gave us many more rights as human beings. It is something we still live by today as well as the constitution. -
Industrial Revolution
This event was significant because not did we get much more technological advancements but it also began to set the North apart from the South ad they both started getting different points of view causing tension to start. -
Louisiana Purchase
This event was significant because it doubled the size of our country and gave us a lot more resources. It also leads to us pushing the Native Americans even farther back from there lands -
War of 1812
This event was significant because its what really established us as a country that could win wars and we gained respect from other nations. -
Battle of New Orleans
This was an important event because it was the bloodiest battle of the war and its where Andrew Jackson became really popular. This is where the Era of the Common man is put into play -
Missouri Compromise
This was the first of many compromises about slavery. Instead of getting rid of it or doing anything real about slavery, We continued to compromise until finally, all the tension brought us to war. -
Monroe Doctrine
This is important because it set the tone for our foreign policy and that European powers could not colonize anything under American protection. -
Indian Removal Act
This is important because it shows the racism that is so deeply ingrained in our society and it shows the horrible things Americans have done because of the color of there skin. -

This event is important because it is the start of all the states succeeding from the union and paves the way for other States to leave and join the confederacy -

This really set the South off because the South hated Lincoln and knew he was going to take their slaves which they really didn't want to happen. This made them really want to succeed -

This was the first major battle of the Civil War and it was a confederate victory. This made the confederate army a real threat. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This was a very important event because it set all the slaves free and ended slavery. This helped the War because many slaves enrolled to fight with the union as well as the confederacy. Although the proclamation didn't reach all the slaves until later -
Battle Of Gettysburg
This was the turning event of the war and it made sure the Union would win. it was a very bloody battle though and costed both sides -
End of Civil War
The War ended with a victory for the North and Slavery abolished. It still didn't fix the racism in America but it was a start. The South would still resent the North for this.
