    The people in the territories decide for themselves, everyone started to move into Kansas and Nebraska.

    A small scale civil war broke out in Kansas, their rallying cry was "Bleeding Kansas"
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom. The Supreme Court decided that African Americans were not citizens and could not sue. It increased tension between North and South.

    Both running for Senator of Illinois. Lincoln lost, but it helped spread him nationally.
  • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry

    John Brown seized a federal arsenal and started a slave revolt, but it failed.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860

    Lincoln promised to keep slavery from sreading into new territories. He won the election. Southern states began to secede, calling themselves the Confederate States of America.

    Lincoln sent supplies to the Fort when the South opened fire on them, which set off the Civil War.
