  • Germany and Austria-Hungary form an Alliance

    (Day and Month not found) This plays a role in the Great War later on as Germany supports Austria-Hungary. 3 years later Italy joins to form the Triple Alliance.
  • Alliances before the Great War

    (Day and Month not found) France allied with Russia as they were both concerned about Germany's growing power and influence in Europe. This was one of the key factors in starting the Great War as later on a chain effect of allied countries supporting each other lead Europe to war.
  • Great Britain allies with Russia and France

    (Day and Month not found) Great Britain joined with France and Russia's alliance forming the Triple Entente. Russia had a separate alliance with Serbia which later on dragged the whole of the Triple Entente into war.

    Austria-Hungary presents u an ultimatum to Serbia knowing that Serbia couldn't accept all the terms. Within five days Serbia accepted most of the conditions, but this still wasn't enough for Austria-Hungary. The unacceptable ultimatum presented to Serbia was just a lead up to the declaration of war.

    The declaration of war that began the first World War. After this declaration the allies of Serbia and the allies of Austria-Hungary get dragged into a Europe-wide war.

    Russia was one of the first allied countries to mobilise their troops in support of their allies. Russia mobilised two days after war was declared on Serbia, moving to defend their ally Serbia. This move by Russia resulted in Germany acting in defence for Austria-Hungary.

    Germany planned to attack France by passing through neutral Belgium leading to Britain declaring war on Germany in defence for France and Belgium. This led to Australia, New-Zealand and Canada being brought into the World War in support for Britain.
