    Wilmot Proviso
    Government tried to prohibit slavery from Mexican Cessiion territory. John Quincy Adams, John C. Calhoun< and Daniel Webster were working on a compromise between the North and South. They blieved if they kept the balance between slave and free states, there would be more peace. Henry Clay asked to write the Compromise.
    The impact on this was so everyone could stop arguing about this and people wouldn't be angry anymore. If this was to go on something really serious would have probably happened.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    North liked: California admitted as a free state and the the slave trade was abolished in the District of Columbia
    South liked: 2 territories could vote to prevent slavery and strong fugitive slave laws was passed to ensure the return of the runaway slaves
    This compromise was important it managed to keep both sides satisfied and prevented a permanent split before the Civil War.

    The purpose of the book was wanting an end to slavery.

    The law and impact of this tried to solve the problem of slavery. The politcal result was that people in the territoies could decide for themselves whether their state would allow slavery. The effect it had on the territories was people began flooding into Kansas and Nebraska

    A smll scale civil war happened in Kansas. The rellying cry for the anti-slavery Northerners and the Replubican party is known as Bleeding Kansas

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom. The Supreme Court ruled that African Americans were not citizens and couldn't sue, slaves were property. The impact on this was this judgement affected relations between the North and South by increasing the tension between the Northern and Southern states.

    Lincoln and Douglass were running for Senator of Illinois. The impact was douglass won the election for Senator. Lincoln became nationally famous.
  • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry
    John Brown led the Harper's Ferry and he seized the federal arsenal. It didn't work, slaves didn't revolt. Brown became a hero in the case of slavery. The impact was that he did this to end slavery.
  • Election of 1860

    The voters voted mostly based on which section of the country they livd in. Southern states said they would secede if Lincoln was elected. The impact was that Jefferson Davis was elected president.
  • Fort Sumter

    Tis was the first battle. The thing that set it off was Lincoln was sending to the fort. The impact on this was that south opened fire on April 12, 1861 and the Union had to surrender.
