    1850 The Compromise of 1850 Including the Fugitive Slave Act

    An act that required that slaves must be returned to their owners, even if they were free in a free state. It’s obvious that this event led to war, because slaves deserve the right to be free and happy. And most Northerners felt this way too. This was around September 18th, 1850. The person who drafted this law, was Senator James M. Mason of Virginia.

    1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act

    A territorial act that creates territories for Kansas and Nebraska. It was drafted by Democratic Senator Stephen A. Douglas. This was May 30th, 1854. It lead to the Civil War because it raised the possibility that slavery could not be extended into territories where it WAS banned. This can get people angry causing war.

    It was a mini civil war between pro and anti slavery forces that occurred in Kansas, on May 21st, 1854-1856. John Brown was a violent radical abolitionist involved in the Potawatomi massacre. This led to the civil war because it was a mini war in itself.

    It was when the Supreme Court ruled that Americans of African descendent, whether free or slave, were not American citizens and could not sue in federal court. This lead to war because African want to fight for freedom and equality. Stanford was important because he tried to fight for black freedom. This was March 6th, 1857

    Their first debate was Lincoln wanting to abolitionize the Whig and Democratic parties. While Douglas was trying to nationalize slavery. This can lead to war because of two different parties have to fight for what they want. This was August 21st, 1858.

    John Brown tried to initiate a slave revolt in Southern states by taking over the United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry. This could lead to war because this action can make people angry. This happened on October 16th-18th 1859.
