    Trench Warfare
    Common type of warfare used heavily in WW1 to fight countries. Consisted of close quarters combat, barbed wire and trenches in which soldiers stayed in for cover. Many various weapons were used including Bayonets, rifles, Mortars, Gas. The U.S. called Neutrality after seeing trench warfare to please the mass people of the U.S.
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    Submarine off the coast of Britain sunk what was known to be one of the biggest cargo ships. It contributed to the US entering war because when Germany declared "unrestricted submarine warfare" multiple US ships were sunk. Also aboard the ship was 128 US men and women.
  • Exspionage and Sedition Act

    Exspionage and Sedition Act
    The Sedition act made it illegal to print or post anything bad about the government during WW1. Espionage Act said that no one could talk bad about the government using profane language. It violates the first right amendment which allows the freedom of speech something America was founded on. The court case Schenck vs. US made so that freedom of speech could be taken away if it presented a "clear and present danger."
  • Zimmerman Note

    Zimmerman Note
    A encrypted message was intercepted by British coded breakers. The message was sent by Authur Zimmerman German foreign secretary and meant for the German Ambassador to Mexico. It said if Germany was to go to war with the United States, Mexico would join Germany and fight the US. In exchange for Mexico's help they would be allowed to keep parts of Texas. U.S then entered the war just days later fearing attack of Mexico and Germany.
  • Spanish Flu

    Spanish Flu
    One of the first major world natural disasters. Consisted on the H1N1 flu virus. It was deadly and had no way to be treated if found ill. It spread throughout the world and ended up killing off about 50-100 million people (roughly 3-5% of the world at that time).
  • Fourteen Points

    Fourteen Points
    The Fourteen Points was used as document to end WW1 with peace. Talked about territorial points and how to solve them. His speech was presented at the League of Nations conference. The Treaty of Versailles exceeded the fourteen points and later made world peace and ended WW1.
  • Women

    The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. Before this time women didn't have equal rights to a man. Due to all of the men being drafted for war, many job opportunities were for filled by women. It showed that women were just as important as the men fighting in the war.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    Was the document that official ended WW1. It stated that Germany would pay for the war. They used the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan but later on were cancelled due to Hitler's rise in power in Germany.
