Austria-Hungary gives an ultimatum to Serbia as a way to avoid war, because of the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Serbia was willing to fulfill most of the demands but not all of them and so in return Austria-Hungary declares war on them.

The Lusitania was a British ship that was traveling from Liverpool, to New York. Traveling bhy ships during since the begoinning of the war was not recommended and so in this case they were advised to travel at full speed and in a zig zag fashion. The captian of the Lusitania decided to go at a low speed because of the fog that had settled and this caused them to be spotted by a German submarine. The submarine shot a turpido and destroyes the ship and killed the passangers.

During January of 1917 the Zimmerman note was discovered by British intellengence. It was a dimoplatic preposal from Germany to Mexico in hopes that they would attack the United Sates. It was one of the many factors that lead the US to the desition to join the war against Germany.

The United States had stablished neutrality in the beginning of the War. It joined the war after it was have way over because Germany began to have unrestricted submarine warfare, which threatened America's commercial shipping.
