. Additionally I was learning how to use a lot of new filming accessories such as a tripod, top light and fig-rig. Having to gain a substantial amount of knowledge on how to use this tech to film and edit, became a slight hindrance in both the making of my prelim and my final cut, considering there were some things I had to re-learn such as how to fix the camera settings on the camcorder and how to merge and separate parts of my footage.

  • Pre Production of Prelim

During the making of our preliminary task, I lacked a lot of the skills required to make a good sequence such as planning and organisation, technology and IT skills and management skills. This showed in the end because my prelim was not of a good standard. It lacked good title credits and the editing of it was very basic. Pre-production I was still getting accustomed to how our filming technology (JVC Camcorder) and our editing technology (After Effects and Premiere PRO).
  • During and post production

After producing my preliminary I developed new skills such as planning and organisation but also I learnt how imperative it is to take into consideration the 180 degree rule; we had to film from that one angle as the footage could flip when being watched on screen and would confuse viewers. This is something that all professional film makers have to take into account.
  • During and post production of prelim

A lot of the editing skills I developed to make my final cut (with my group members) were developed during the making of my preliminary. At first I had a very limited understanding of how to work software like After Effects and Premiere Pro. Notwithstanding after a brief walkthrough I came to know some of the simple functions of these technologies. Although there were not a lot of match cutting shots in my prelim, I did learn how to edit match cuts of footage. I did initially struggle with this

  • Producing my final cut

All through the making of my final cut I think I had already developed a lot of skills such as camerawork, editing and sound skills; I can conclude that these skills were strengthened whilst producing my final cut. My knowledge of how to use the camcorder was very basic knowledge. For instance I only knew how to turn it on and zoom in and out, but whilst filming my final cut, I learnt how to vary the camera movement and angles to keep the footage visually complex and interesting. Furthermore fr
  • Post production of my final title sequence

Aside from the technological skills that I established and strengthened, there were many other skills that I gained in the making of my title sequence. Making the media product involved a huge amount of teamwork and co-operation with my team members. Working with others meant I and to be very patient and dependant as well as dependable on others. Another hidden skill was management and decision-making; this affected my planning and organisation because I had to have a set out idea of what I wan
  • Looking back at what I've learnt

Overall across both productions, I have learnt that in order to produce a good product there are many skills that I need and these can furtherly be developed through being organised and having effective planning. I believe that these factors were paramount to me completing my blogs and making the final cut. I gained many skills such as editing, sound and camerawork during the production of my prelim that later progressed whilst producing my opening title sequence for ‘The Escaping’.

Nevertheless, I took all filming and editing times as an opportunity to learn somethings new about the technologies and how I could input that knowledge into another editing or filming session.
