The peace of Augsburg was a trety signed between Charles the 5th and the schmalkaldic league of lutheran princes. This allowed princes in the roman empire to choose if their official faith in their state was catholic or lutheran. This ended the struggle for power between each other, however, it also marked the end of christian unity in Europe.
