    Kansas Nebraska act 1854-Allowed each territory to decide on slavery based on popular sovereignty

    Dred Scott Decision 1857-Ruling declared that Dred was a slave after years of being free, ruled that the Missouri Compromise prohibiting slavery in Northern territories was unconstitutional.

    Harpers Ferry 1859-Brown is captured and hanged for treason after planning an attack on the weapons Arsenal at Harpers Ferry.

    Lincolns election 1860-Lincoln was the only candidate against slavery, him winning not only pushed the southern states to succeed, but also pushed the U.S. onto the brink of war.

    Attack on Fort Sumter 1861-Sumter was a federal fort in South Carolina. The South attacked it, while the Union tried to re supply it. War had begun.
