    This Established many lower court systems, therefore only very important cases are taken to the Supreme Court. Happened during Washington's presidency.

    The Whiskey Rebellion
    As a result of a tax put on whiskey, some citizens rebelled, causing problems. Although the rebellion was strong, the new Federal Government held up, proving the the significance of having a strong central power. To this day, we have the same-structured government. This happened during Washington's presidency.

    On September 17, 1796, Washington announced that he would not be running for president for a third term in his farewell address. One of the few important things he warned the country about is to avoid having political parties. This was because he thought it divided the nation.

    After the War of 1812, the nation went into the Era of Good Feelings, where everyone was happy and took huge loans from the bank. As a result of this, people couldn't pay money back to the bank, so banks crashed and America encountered it's first financial crisis. Learning from their mistake, the nation built a more stable financial system that we still have today. This was during Monroe's presidency.

    Maryland put a tax on the National Bank, that Baltimore Branch National Bank owner, McCulloch, didn't want to pay. The Supreme Court declared and made official that state law CANNOT interfere with federal law. This event happened during Monroe's presidency.

    The Missouri Compromise
    Missouri had wanted to join the nation as a slave state, but the country was so divided to the point where they wanted an equal number of slave and free states. Henry Clay proposed the Missouri Compromise, stating that Missouri could join as a slave state and Maine could join as a free state, and in the future any territory above 36 30' would be a free state and any territory below 36 30' would be a slave state. Instead of being united, the nation was divided.

    Gibbons VS. Ogden
    Ogden had exclusive permission given to him by New York to operate steamboats between New York and New Jersey. Gibbons was operating a ferry there, and Ogden felt as though his rights were violated, so he accused Gibbons, and Gibbons appealed to the Supreme Court. The Court deemed that the Federal Government will regulate interstate commerce and navigation. This happened during Monroe's time.

    John F. Kennedy was running for president, and Richard Nixon was the opposing candidate. They had the first televised debate, which impacted the results of the election greatly because of Kennedy's superior looks to Nixon broadcasted nationally.

    During JFK's presidency, the US space program was critically developed because of the funding JFK contributed to the Space Program. In addition to this the "Space Race" had begun, which was a contest of power against Russia. On May 5, 1961, Alan Sheppard Jr. becomes the first American in space. This was also in the middle of the Cold War.
