  • 1845-The first catholic school was established

    1845 – in 1845 the first catholic school in Australia was established by a lay couple by the names of Mary and Michael Burke. The school was entirely funded by money collected from catholic settlers and the school was located not far from where Saint Stevens cathedral stands today.
  • 1850-St Stevens was procliam of the Disocese

    1850 – After 5 years of the first catholic school being established they built their first permanent church.
  • 1861-Our first catholic secodary school (All Hollows) was established

    1859 – Almost 10 years later Saint Stevens cathedral was proclaimed the diocese cathedral after formally separating from New South Wales becoming as we know it today Queensland.
  • 1868-Macauley college at the All Hollows campus was established

    1868 – The schools All Hollows an all-girl and James school an all boy’s schools in 1868 and were completely staffed by lay teachers, it was a unique model with both religion and lay student teachers receiving training before and after school it would be nearly a century before a dedicated teacher training college was built which would be call Macaulay College.
  • 1870-

    1870 – This was a busy time for growing because the Irish Catholics and English Protestants came to a push to keep the catholic and state school’s laws separate but this was passed to provide free education
