  • Battle of Tippecanoe Creek

    Battle of Tippecanoe Creek
    American officials were concerned about Tecumseh's activities. William Heney Harrison, governor of the Indian territory, decided to take action. While Tecumseh was away, Harrison marched 1,000 soldiers against Shawnee villages. Harrison defeated the Native Americans.
  • British Take Detroit

    American troops under General William Henry Hull invaded Canada from Detroit. He decided he did not have enough troops and retreated. Then General Brock, a British commander, took advantage of Hull’s confusion. His army of soldiers and Native American warriors quickly surrounded Hull’s army and forced them to surrender.
  • Oliver Hazard Perry captures a British fleet

    Oliver Hazard Perry captures a British fleet
    A three hour battle took place at Put-In-Bay. During the battle, the American flagship was badly damaged. So Perry switched to another ship and continued to fight until it was won.
  • American forces cross the Niagara River into Canada

    General Stephen Van Rennsselaer leads American forces across the Niagara River into Canada, where they clash with British forces at Queenston Hights, Ontario. New York state militia claim that they are only required to fight on New York soil. As a result, the Americans are defeated and 900 American soldiers are captured.
  • Advance to the Canadian Border

    General Henry Dearborn advanced to the Canadian border in order to attack Montreal. He retreated to Plattsburg, New York when the militia under his command refused to cross the border. They claimined that they are only required to fight to defend American soil.
  • Napoleon's defeat in Europe

    Napoleon's defeat in Europe
    Napoleon was defeated in Europe and Great Britain sent 18,00 veteran troops to Canada. U.S forces were defeated at the battle of Lundy’s Lane. This caused Napoleon to retreat back into France.
  • British attack Washington D.C.

    British forces capture Washington, D.C. The White House, the Capitol, and executive department offices are burned. It is important because America's capital was poorly defended and was forced to resign.
  • British attack Baltimore

    The British try to attack Fort McHenry, which protected Baltimore. British warships bombarded the fort through throughout the night. But the attack was unsuccessful.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    At the Battle of New Orleans, General Andrew Jackson and a force of 5000 Americans turn back an invading British army of 7500 soldiers. It was one of the biggest military wins of the war. After this, Andrew Jackson became a national hero, which may have led to his presidency in 1828.
