UGA chartered by the GA General Assem bly in 1785. UGA was first university in America to be created by a state government, and they got higher education. -
Louisville
The assembly passed a law appointing Nathan Brownson, william Few Jr., and Hugh lawson as commissioners charged with finding a site for the seat of government. Legislators specified that the new capital would be named Louisville in honor of king Louis XVI of France. -

Land Lottery (Land Lottery Act signed)
The first land lottery was authorized by the ligislate on May 11, 1803. For a fee of four cents an acers, common Georgians could amass a sizeable land holding. -
Railroads
The state legislature, meeting in Miledgenville, issued a charater for the company in December 1833. The canal divison of the company was soon dropped in favor of the construcrion of railroads. -
Baptist/Methodist (GA Baptist Convention formed)
Controversy between northern and southern facrions in the Triennial Convention of the American Baptist Home Mission Society erupted. The divisive issue was slavery-some southern Baptists did not trust the proclamations of neutrality that northern Baptists had made.
