Matthew Healy (b. 8 April 1989), the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, met Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel at Wilmslow High School in Wilmslow in 2002; as teenagers, they played together. The 1975 are an English rock band originating from Manchester. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew "Matty" Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel.

They found the perfect name: The 1975. The name was inspired by scribblings found on the backpage of a poetry book by Jack Kerouac that stated "1 June, The 1975".

Release of the band's first EP, titled Facedown.

They release "Sex" from the eponymous EP, sounding in the BBC Radio.

They embarked on a United Kingdom and Ireland tour.

Release of Music for Cars on 4 March 2013. (the third extended play of the band). Music for Cars has received positive reviews. According to Rolling Stone, "The 1975 wrap two pop anthems inside a trio of hazy, atmospheric journeys".

The band performed for the first time in a major American music and arts festival: Coachella.

The band won "Worst Band" by NME Awards.

A tour for the album began on 9 November 2015 in Liverpool. The band played the United Kingdom in November and the United States in December, Asia and Oceania in January 2016, Europe in March to April, and the US from April to May.

The album's third single, "The Sound" debuted on BBC Radio 1 on 14 January 2016. The 1975 released the fourth single "Somebody Else" on 15 February on Beats 1 before the album's release. "A Change of Heart", albeit a song, premiered on Radio 1 on 22 February.

The album was released on 26 February and topped the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.

Healy confirmed that the band's third album, titled Music for Cars, is scheduled to be released in 2018.
