    The Compromise of 1850 was proposed by Henry Clay. The compromise prevented further territorial expansion of slavery while strengthening the Fugitive Slave Act.

    The South had a slow change in population growth. While the North had accepted industrialization, large urban areas and high birth rates. This incline of population doomed the south to try and maintain balance in their government.
