Charles Darwin finds islands that seemed of little value, however, upon closer inspection he discovered "primitive" rocks. After cracking them open, he found that the insides contained fossils of brachiopods. -
Darwin experiences a volcanic eruption
Darwin sees a volcano erupt first hand while on the island of Chiloe and also experiences an earthquake, which he found very damaging and perhaps worrisome. -
Darwin arrives at the Galapagos islands
Darwin finds many unique species on the island, including but not limited to birds, aquatic iguanas, and large tortoises. So large in fact, that he is so amazed he rides one.
