  • 1533

    Ivan IV

    Ivan IV became the Czar King in 1533. He was responsible for the Russia isolation.
  • Dead of Ivan IV

    Ivan IV died in 1584 being the worst ruler that Russia ever had. In fact, most of Russia rejoiced when Ivan IV died.
  • Michael Romanov

    Michael became the new Czar in 1613 and he ruled until the Russian Revolution in 1917. He became the first Romanov Monarch.
  • Peter I

    Peter became Czar of Russia in 1682; However, he took full responsibility of the Russian throne in 1689. He was known as "Peter the Great" as he converted Russia in a true absolute monarchy
  • Westernisation

    Peter I allowed many changed as he was opened minded. In fact, he allowed all excluded women to participate, send Russian soldiers to study Western Europe culture, shipbuilding and mostly all technology to incorporate it in Russia as they were behind all Europe in improvements.
  • Mercantilism

    Peter I realized that he needed more money to continue with the Westernisation of Russia. In fact, he embraces mercantilism and consistently imports goods for Russia and export goods for outer countries.
  • St. Petersburg

    With the land won in the war against Sweeden, Peter I decided to build a new city with many architects from Europe. This city became the most important trade city and the new capital of Russia.
  • Warm-water port

    To continue trade he neede to find a warm-water port. So, invest money and time in their army making it the largest army standing in Europe. Then, he decided to go to war with Sweeden for the Baltic Sea. The war started in 1700 and ended in 1709 gaining part of the Baltic Sea; Therefore, trade could continue for Russia.
  • Peter's legacy

    Peter I died in 1725 leaving Russia with a great legacy. He gained a warm-water port, expanded Russian territory, strengthened the Russian economy and created a huge army.
  • Catherine II

    Catherine gained power in 1762 because of his husband Peter III death. She was a great leader for the Russian as she restored Peter I vision and ideals. In fact, she was called "Catherine the Great".
  • 2nd warm-water port

    Catherine II invaded the Black Sea to gain another warm-water port. She defeated the Ottoman Empire gaining land in the Black Sea which gave Russia a 2nd warm-water port which Peter I could achieve. This only made the Russian economy much stronger.
  • The Three Portions of Poland

    Three monarchs joined forced to divide Poland. These were the Prussians, Russians, and Austrians. In fact, in 1772 they gain significant land from Poland. Subsequently, in 1793 and 1795 Poland experienced more of these land lost. These events were known as the Three Portions of Poland.
  • Russian Revolution

    As Catherine II died in 1796 she did great achievements for the Russia Empire. However, her persecution of the peasants led to the Russian Revolution in 1917 that ended the Romanov Monarch in Russia.
