  • YEAR OF THE SELFIE

    YEAR OF THE SELFIE
Twitter proclaimed 2014 as the “Year of the Selfie” following Ellen DeGeneres’s Oscar photo. I chose this part of social media because that selfie has been retweeted more than three million times, setting a Twitter record.
  • GIF not just on Tumblr

    GIF not just on Tumblr
Facebook now has GIFs! I remember the gif being something that fancy Tubmlr users would make. Everyone loves it! Why would I use words to explain what I want to say when I can use a clever gif?
  • Snapchat Filters *puppy dog face*

    Snapchat Filters *puppy dog face*
September 2015: Snapchat introduces it’s “filters". Those filters we all know and love, and sometimes hate because who uses the dog filter anymore? However, I have added this because filters are on everything social media platform now. I can play and interact with others and be a cat, how cool.
  • Myspace is dead?

    Myspace is dead?
February 2016: Time Inc buys Myspace (for some reason).. I thought Myspace was dead but maybe we will get some reboot of Myspace? I think that would be cool to bring back old sites but make them better.
  • The U.S. election and social media’s fake news crisis

The U.S. election and social media’s fake news crisis
During the U.S. presidential election, fake news became the only news. Mainstream influencers spread news by bots.
Facebook has since revealed that 126 million Americans were exposed to content by Russian agents during the election.
I remember talking about fake news in high school, we just didn't call it fake news, yet. Is fake news really that new? I add this mainly because of the term being coined and now it has become a joke.
  • RIP Vine

    RIP Vine
On December 16, 2016, it was announced that the Vine mobile app would be no longer. Vine would only be the "Vine Camera.". I add this because I know we all miss vine because TIKTOK short videos with music are driving us crazy. I speak for everyone when I say that we need vine back.
  • Double the fun!

    Double the fun!
Twitter doubles the character limit! Twitter wants more users so the character limit goes from 140 to 280! This is an amazing addition to the timeline because 140 characters makes a difference in sharing your opinions online. Social media just got a little more social.
  • Cambridge Analytica.. oh no!

    Cambridge Analytica.. oh no!
March 2018: It is revealed that Cambridge Analytica harvested user data without their consent and used this data for political purposes. Now users are afraid about what they accept too. I don't think it slowed social media down but it did give everyone something to think about before the hit the accept all button.
  • Zuckerberg testifies.. don't leave us FB!

Zuckerberg testifies.. don't leave us FB!
April 2018: Mark Zuckerberg testifies before Congress. Again, maybe we don't want to let go of this. However, I don't think the people of the internet realize that you give a lot of info to a lot of different companies already.
  • RIP Google+

    RIP Google+
To end this timeline I give you a fail that was finally put to rest. Google+ finally shuts down.. sorry Google but Google+ was a bad idea. It did not give users a good amount of interaction and the site looked awful.
