On the 26th of January 1788, the colony of New South Wales was founded. According to Arthur Phillip, the area of the colony extended westward from the east coast.

On the 13th of May 1788, the first fleet carrying convicts from England arrived at Botony Bay in Australia.

On the 16th of July 1825, New South Wales border was moved further to the west. On the 3rd of December 1825, Van Diemen's land became a colony.

On the 2nd of May 1829, The Swan River colony was founded by Charles Fremantle.

On the 6th of Febuary 1832, the Swan River Colony was renamed Western Australia.

On the 28th of December 1836, South Australia became a colony.

On the 17th of Febuary 1846, Northen Australia became a colony which meant that New South Wales was moved 26 degrees south.

On the 15th of April 1847, North Australia was changed back to New South Wales.

In May 1851, the first gold rush in Australia began when Edward Hargraves found gold near Orange.

On the 1st of July 1851, Victoria became a colony, making New South Wales smaller.

On the 1st of January 1856, Van Diemen's Land was renamed Tasmania.

In May 1858, South Australia's border was made larger.

On the 6th of June 1859, Queensland became a colony.

On the 3rd of June 1862, the western border of Queensland was moved.

On the 6th of July 1863 , South Australia became the largest colony and New South Wales became one of the smallest colonies. These changes stayed until after Federation.

On the 1st of January 1901 Australia became an independent country. The British parliament signed a legistation allowing the six colonies to govern Australia. Therefore creating common wealth Australia.

On the 28th of July the first world war began.
