  • The Northwest Ordinance

    The US passed a law, now known as the Northwest Ordinance, that allowed expansion into the area north and west of the Ohio River
  • Battle of Fallen Timbers

    Battle of Fallen Timbers
    U.S. troops defeated a British-supported force of Indians. The battle was about 15 miles southwest of Toledo, Ohio. After the defeat the British left their forts in U.S. territory. The victory then led to the Treaty of Greenville of 1795.
  • Signing of the Sioux Treaty

    Signing of the Sioux Treaty
    6 different tribes went to Fort Laramie to sign a peace treaty known as the treaty of Fort Laramie or Sioux Treaty. This promised the Lakota ownership of the Black Hills, and further land and hunting rights in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. The Powder River Country was to be henceforth closed to all whites.

    Battle between American Settlers and the Souix tribe. The last Native American battle over land.
  • Occupation of Alcatraz

    Occupation of Alcatraz
    The Sioux Treaty said all " worn out " land will be given to the Indians. Alcatraz was "worn out" but the U.S. didn't think it qualify. The Indians started to protest but eventually left the island nineteen months later.
