Feb 17, 1962

First Computer Game

Steve Russell creates "SpaceWar!" and releases it in February 1962. This game is considered the first game intended for computers. This is important because it set a legacy for the computer games that were invented after that and introduced the first electronic computer game.

Nov 8, 1964

Computer Mouse Invented

The first prototype of the computer mouse was made by Douglas Engelbart. The invention of the mouse is important because it revolutionized the graphic user interface and is still used today.

Feb 24, 1971

First E-mail

Ray Tomlinson sends the first e-mail, the first messaging system to send messages across a network to other users. He sent the email using ARPANET. The first email said QWERTYUIOP. I chose this because it is still used today and it meant that you could communicate remotely over the internet.

Aug 11, 1975

First Computer Language

Paul Allen and Bill Gates write the first computer language program for personal computers, which is a form of BASIC designed for the Altair. Gates later drops out of Harvard and founds Microsoft with Allen. I chose this because my Dad is a computer programmer and he uses the language that Bill Gates has invented.

Jul 9, 1982

First Computer Made Movie

Disney releases the movie Tron on July 9, 1982, the first movie to use computer generated special effects. I chose this milestone because the TRON movie was the first movie to use computer effects and I like movies that are animated. TRON led to many more animated movies.

Nov 8, 1982

First Personal Computer

Apple Computer is the first personal computer manufacturer to hit the $1 billion mark for annual sales. I chose this event because this meant that people could now use their own computers at home. I chose this because I now have an Apple Personal Computer

Nov 22, 1995

First Internet Competion

Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 2.0 on November 22, 1995 and officially starts the browser war between Netscape. I chose this because I used to use Internet Explorer instead of Netscape.

Apr 20, 1998

First MP3

Saehan's MPMan becomes the first MP3 player released in Japan to the public in spring of 1998. I chose this because I used to have an original MP3 player until it got revolutionized by the Ipod later.
