    African traders sold enslaved people for guns and other European goods. European traders brought the enslaved people across the ocean.

    The Africas used the guns to weaken neighboring people. They capture people to trade. The wars weakened Africa making it vulnerable to Europeans.

    Trading Posts

    Europeans built trading posts on Africa's coastlines.
  • Southern and Eastern Africa

    They were colonized by Dutch. The Dutch and British created supply ports like Cape Town.
  • Slaves

    Slave trade mostly outlawed.
  • Colonizing

    Europeans started colonizing Africa. They wanted access to Africa's resources and trade routes. Britain controlled Egypt, France Western Africa, Spain and Italy governed other parts of North Africa, and Belgium colonized Central Africa. Britain, France, Germany, and Portugal set up rule over the west coast and moved farther inland.
