    1770 - Australia was discovered
    An English Royal Navy officer, Lieutenent James Cook went on a voyage. He sailed on the east coast and found a strange land which would be called Australia in the future. He called this unknown land Botany Bay. He claimed the entire coast and gave it to Great Britain. He named the area New South Wales.

    Britain had very few jobs for people. Many people, including children, stole food and were imprisoned. Great Britain was over flowing with convicts.
  • 1788 - The First Fleet

    1788 - The First Fleet
    In 1783, after the War of American Independence, the new American states stoppped taking convicts. Great Britain needed another place to ship convicts so they chose New South Wales. Governer Arthur Phillip left Great Britain with eleven ships in 1987. The voyage took eight months, they arrived at Botany Bay from 18-20 January 1788
  • The Second Fleet

    The Second Fleet
    During the Second Fleet, there were six ships; consisting of transport ships and store ships. Four transport ships and two storeships arrived in Sydney Cove in 1790. Unusually, a transport ships called The Lady Juliana, was a ladies ship which consisted of only women, which was a first. Many convicts died before they reached Australia.

    In Bathurst, 1851, Edward Hargraves discovered a grain of gold in a waterhole. This attracted many men and women who left their homes and families. After a while, many immigrants arrived for the gold.
  • The Eureka Stockade

    The Eureka Stockade
    In 1854, there were about 25, 000 gold diggers at the Ballarat goldfields, many disliked the licenses and decided to publicly burn theirs at the stake. They marched to the Eureka diggings where they constucted the stockade made of wood. In the stockade, about 500 diggers made an oath on the Southern Cross Flag and collected things to defend the stockade. The authorities launched an attack early in the morning, the diggers were outnumbered and lost. The fight had lasted only 20 minutes.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
    It all started when Britain and Germany went to war when their Presidents started fighting. Australian ANZAC Troops were sent to the wrong bay. Most of the soldiers died during the landing and some survived. The ANZAC troops had a disadvantage as the Turkish soldiers were shooting from above the cliffs. The moment the ANZAC troops landed the ran to shore and dug trenches for protction. WW1 ended in 1918. The Turks and Aussies are good allies now.

    World War 2
    The most destuctive War in history, it is unknown how many soldiers died. It was lead by Adolf Hitler. Many countries were involved with it they were: US, Germany, China, Japan.
