    Before 1901, Australia was not a nation. At that time Australia consisted of six British Colonies which were kind of self-governing. Each colony had their own government, laws, railway system, postage stamps and their own taxes. This caused a lot of problems and people started to think about the benefits as one nation, not six different colonies.

The Australians also went to war because they were fighting for the British empire. But sadly many people died.
