  • Roanoke

    Roanoke
    Raleigh sent groups over to Roanoke the first group only made it a year. Under the command of john white he headed back for supplies, but the events of Europe delayed their return. when White was able to return he came back to his colony gone ( wiped out) with the word Croatoan carved into the tree.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    A group of like 100 members called the Virginia Colony founded the first English settlement in North America. Food loss, disease, and conflict with the Native Americas caused the Jamestown Colony to go downhill. Before the arrival of a new group of people in 1610. Tobacco was the bet seller they had in Jamestown/ most profitable. They then started expanding into the east coast.
  • Salutary Neglect

    Salutary Neglect
    This refers to a long term policy of avoiding laws and rules throughout England. This allowed the enforcement of trade relations or laws.
  • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    The house of burgesses was the first elective governing body in the British possession. It included a governor and a council. Along with 2 delegates from each colonies 11 settlements. When the meetings got moved they met in Jamestown.
  • Maryland

    Maryland
    At the beginning of the European exploration where they explored the coast of North America. In 1781,during the American Revolutionary war Maryland became the seventh state of the united states.
  • Great Puritan Migration

    Great Puritan Migration
    A few hundred pilgrims went to the Plymouth Colony in 1620. The pilgrims let mostly because of religious persecution, and economic reasons as well. The climate was hostile and dangerous, and the didn't have enough food for the winter.

    The Mayflower Compact was a set of rules to follow for self-governance.
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony

    Massachusetts Bay Colony
    In 1630 a group of 1000 Puritans settled in Massachusetts. King Charles was teaching the Puritans how to trade and and colonize as a community. They ended up deciding to transfer it to Massachusetts, but this move was a step in a good direction for them. This began to pave the way for the way for local management.
  • New York

    New York
    One of the original 13 colonies. It has more than 18 million residents and is one of the most populated states in the U.S. It was named after the 17th century Duke of York. The state is boarded by the rest of the 13 colonies.
  • Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania
    Most of the tribes that lived in Pennsylvania were driven off shortly after settling there. The main reason was smallpox, however, the also didn't have enough materials and resources needed to survive. Later on it was known as one of the most populated states out of the 13 colonies.
  • Carolina

    Carolina
    This was one of the thirteen original colonies. The settlers who ended up coming to Carolina were pretty wealthy. They started to develop crops and cotton. This helped them survive the cold and starvation.
  • Connecticut

    Connecticut
    Connecticut was one of the original 13 colonies. Which is located on the Northeastern part of the colony. By the 19th century textile and machines were aa big part of the industry. Guns nd other arms were very big in Connecticut. In area it is one of the 3rd smallest states in the United States, but rates high in population. It is also about 110 miles long.
  • Maryland Toleration Act

    The Act was meant to ensure freedom of religion for Christian settlers of diversity in the colony. The law didn't allow people to forbid a religion by speaking bad about it.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    Nathanial Bacon lead a battle against William Berkeley. William brought people over from England to help them fight and Bacon couldn't surrender so he stayed and fought. So Williams troops hid in the forest and Bacon was left dead and his team defeated.

    The Salem witch trials began when a group of girls claimed to be processed by the devil. They had a trial for the girls
  • Great Awakening/Enlightenment

    Great Awakening/Enlightenment
    The great awakening was a religious movement which impacted English colonies. Christian leaders often traveled town to town trying to persuade people to follow in there beliefs. The result of this was a new appreciation for all the religions.
  • Albany Plan

    Albany Plan
    The plan was to establish a centralized government to oversee the colonies. Although many people thought the plan was to extreme they ended up not implementing it. Then the French and Indian war broke out over who could have control over the land in North America. While after that time they were trying to establish a thing of defense and equality.
  • French - Indian War

    French - Indian War
    Also known as the Seven year War. Which marked another struggle between Britain and France. When the French expanded toward the Ohio river this caused more conflict which led the the official declaration of war in 1756. So the French expanded toward the east coast while a little while later the British expanded westward.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Issued by the British to the French and Indian war to appease Native Americans by checking for settlers on their land. It created a boundary line which separated them in hopes of not starting another war. It closed down traveling so no one could expand outside of their territory.
  • Rhode Island

    Rhode Island
    One of the first 13 original colonies. Despite the small land population Rhode island is known as the ocean state. Founded by Roger Williams. Who was banished from Massachusetts because of his religious beliefs.
