October- Sun Yixian's Revolutionary alliance succeeded in overthrowing the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty
This alliance artfully created on the part of Sun Yixian led to the overthrow of the 2,000 year old imperial rule of china. -
January 1st- Sun Yixian became President of the new Republic of China
His becoming President in 1912 marked the end of the 1911 Revolution and 2,000 years of Chinese imperial rule. -
March- Sun Yixian turns over the presidency to General Yuan Shikai
This transfer of power made General Yuan Shikai the first "real" president of the new Republic of China. -
May- The May Fourth Movement/Treaty of Versailles
Students took to the streets to protest the governments weak response to having Chinese land given to Japan in the Versailles Treaty. -
March 12th- Death of Sun Yixian/Jiang Jieshi assumed control of the Kuomintang
His death marks the begging of the end of the Republic of China he envisioned and the beginning of Jiang Jieshi's leading the Kuomintang. -
April- The Shanghai Massacre
The military forces commanded by Jiang Jieshi arrested, tortured, and killed many members of the Chinese communist party in Shanghai. -
October- Jiang Jieshi became President of the Nationalist Republic of China
His becoming President in 1928 marked the first event in the downfall of the Beiyang government(the Republic of China). -
September- Japanese Invasion of the Chinese Province of Manchuria
This invasion is considered by most to be the beginning of WW2 in Asia , and took place due to the many natural resources that were abundant in Manchuria that japan wanted. -

This declaration marked the end of a long bloody civil war in china between the nationalists(Beiyang government) and the communists.
