    On the final day of the potsdam conference tension rose between U.S. president Harry Truman and Joseph stalin the leader of the U.S.S.R. Then the United States and the soviet union entered an era of hostility that became known as the cold war.
  • The Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    The Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    The soviets cut off all supplies into west Berlin hoping that it would force the west to leave Berlin. As a result western leaders organized the Berlin Airlift. It was a plan to supply west Berlin by air it was a success and the soviets called off the blockade.

    As Nuclear war seemed more immanent now that the Soviet Union has successfully tested an atomic bomb. The United States and the Soviet Union tried to see who could make more nuclear weapons. This was known as The Arms Race.

    The Cuban missile crisis was a period of tension between the soviets and the U.S. over the installations of missiles in Cuba that could directly hit many major cities on the U.S. The conflict ended when soviets agreed to remove the missiles.
