    Iron Curtain
    The political and military barrer raised by the soviet Union after World War II to seal off itself and its European allies from contact with the west and other noncommunist areas. Iron curtain was used as a metaphor until Churchhill's speech at Fulton, Missouri on March 5, 1946 when it was used in his speech.
  • Truman Doctrine & Marshall Plan

    Truman Doctrine & Marshall Plan
    The Truman Doctrine stated that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into Soviet power.
    The Marshall Plan was the primary plan of the United States for rebuilding and creating a stronger foundation for the allied countries of Europe, and repelling communism after World War II
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Soviets wanted Berlin to themselves so they locked it down. Including highways, railroads and canals from western-occupied Germany into western-occupied Berlin. US and their allies dropped cargo and supplies into Berlin. This lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin.

    The Vietnam War was the prolonged struggle between nationalist forces attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a communist government and the United States (with the aid of the South Vietnamese) attempting to prevent the spread of communism.

  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    Weakened good realtions with the Soviets as a US covert spy plan was shot down over Soviet Airspace. Francis Powers was taking pictures of Soveit Military bases when he was shot down. He survived but was imprisoned for a few years.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    A failed attempt to overthrow the courrupt goverment of Cuba. The 1400 cuban rebels were either killed or taken into custody. The US did not follow through with their side of the plan and failed all of it.

    Construced by East Germany, Barrier between East/West Germany, Guard towers aswell as high fences, barbed wire, and tall walls. About 100 miles long, taken down in 1990
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    14 Days in October. Closest US came to a nuclear conflict. Blockaded Cuba and told them to dismantle the Soviet's missles and return them back to the USSR. Cuba agreed only to the coniditions that the US never invade them and US dismantles missles in Turkey and Italy.

    Strategic Arms Limitation Talks. Talks between Russia and US to reduce the amount of destructive weapons and the range of those weapons to prevent war.
