  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Russia created a blockade for Western Berlin after the US, France, and the UK united all their portions of Berlin. All roads and rails that led to Western Berlin were cut leaving the people with no food, water and fuel. US and UK planes brought in food, known as the Berlin Airlift. This created a lot of tension between the US and the USSR and after this took place the soviets removed the blockade giving the US a huge victory in the Cold War. Started on June 24, 1949 ended on May 12, 1949.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    Started when North Korea attacked South Korean to regain control over the Peninsula again. North Korea was supported by Communist China and the Soviets while South Korea was supported by the UN and the US. This was the first armed event of the Cold War, it also showed that the US was willing to send troops to fight against communism. The end of the war was on July 27, 1953 when both Koreas signed an armistice that divided Korea in the 38th parallel.
  • Geneva Accords

    Geneva Accords
    It was a conference were the outcomes of the Korean War were discussed as well as settle the first war in Indochina. These documents ended the war between the French and the Vietminh and also divided Vietnam into North and South. North Vietnam was supported by the Soviets and the South was supported by the US. It is important because this was another ground were the two countries could fight each other indirectly. It also ended up dividing Vietnam by the 17th parallel. Apr 26,1954 – Jul 211954
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    Lasted until Apr 30, 1975. After the french couldn't take control over Vietnam, North Vietnam decided to set up a communist nation. Of course the South was supported by the US and its allies and the North was supported by communist China and the Soviets.This way the soviets weren’t directly fighting the U.S. but instead were using a proxy war. This war was key to the idea of cold war because the U.S. and Soviets helped the opposing sides but didn’t have to wage hot war on each other.
  • Suez Crisis

    Suez Crisis
    Israeli forces pushed into Egypt towards the Suez Canal after it had been nationalized by Nasser.The Israelis soon were joined by French and British forces, which nearly brought the Soviet Union into the conflict, and damaged their relationships with the United States. This weakened France and British as world powers and the US was able to rise up to power. He takes advantage of the Soviets and the US wanted to work with him so he gets money from both countries and uses it for his advantage.
  • Sputnik II

    Sputnik II
    USSR Sputnik II carried Laika, a dog into space. This was the first living creature to be in space and this is really important for the Cold War because it put the USSR in a huge advantage towards the US. Sadly Laika died a few hours after the launched but it was a major step taken by the Soviets towards the Space Race. After this the US decided that they had to put more time and money into science to be able to beat the Soviets in the Space Race.
  • U2 Spy Plane

    U2 Spy Plane
    American plane, U2, was flying over Soviet territory to take pictures of their nuclear weapons, which was illegal and when it was identified by soviets it was shoot down. This event is important in the Cold War because the US lied about the incident and never told its people what actually happened until Soviets said they had the pilot captive so they lost a lot of credibility and they made the soviets look good because they weren't spying over the US.
  • Vostok 1

    The mission Vostok 1 carried the first human, Yuri Gagarin, that crossed into outer space. This was an important event in the Cold War because again it gave the advantage to the Soviets and it also put them a step ahead from the US. It is also important to remember today because it was the first time that a human being was launched into space.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    Cuban exiles trained by the CIA and aid by the US invaded Cuba in an attempt to overthrow the communist government of Fidel Castro. They failed on their attempt and the US did nothing to help them, they didn't send any military support. Castro was waiting for them with his troops as soon as the rebels arrived. It lasted for 2 days. The US didn't want Cuba to fall into communism because they were scared that other countries near it will fall under it too.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    From October 16, 1962 to October 28, 1962. Americans discovered that the Soviets were bringing missiles to Cuba. This event is really important in the Cold War because it was the closets point were a nuclear attack almost happened. Tension between the US and the USSR were really high during these days. Since both of these countries had atomic bombs anything could've happened. Teddy Roosevelt was able to solve this problem by placing economic sanctions on Cuba.
  • Hotline Between US and USSR

    Hotline Between US and USSR
    The hotline connected Washington DC with the Soviet capital. It was intended to help reduce the risk of nuclear war occurring by accident, miscalculation or failure of communications. This is a really important event because we can see that neither of these two countries wanted to go into a nuclear war so they were willing to discuss problems diplomatically and it reduced tension between the too. This was set up after the Cuban Missile Crisis.
  • President Kennedy Assassinated

    President Kennedy Assassinated
    I think that this event is important in the Cold War because many though that Kennedy was killed by Soviet spies which created a lot of tension between the US and the Soviets. Kennedy was killed in Dallas, Texas. There are a lot of theories about who killed him but during this time period most of the arrows pointed towards the Soviets so the anti-communist sentiment rose up again. The tension between these two countries backtracked a lot after this event.
  • China's Atomic Bomb

    China's Atomic Bomb
    China at this point was communist which means that they were allies with the Soviets. China now also was a threat to the US because they supported Russia and they also had nuclear weapons. This is important because now the US has two potential threat from two communist countries and they could attack the US aat any time.
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11
    Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight to land on the moon. Kennedy promised that by the end of the century the US would land in the moon and they did. This is a really important event in the Cold War because the US was able to take the lead in the Space Race and the Soviets couldn't do anything to beat them but to get to the moon. This wasn't only important for the Cold War but for Human History. The spaceship was launched on July 16, 1969 and it returned on July 24, 1969. .
  • Berlin Wall Falls

    Berlin Wall Falls
    The Fall of the Berlin wall is when East Germany is finally released from communist control. The falling of the wall symbolized the end of the cold war and the end of the Iron Curtains dominance. This was important to the Cold War because it showed the end. After this, the Soviet Union Collapsed and then the U.S. could finally live without fear.
