    The Yalta conference was the beginning of the cold war. It was agreed to let the USSR have control of Eastern Europe. This was a bad idea because it created a lot of conflict with the U.S.. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.
  • The Blockade and Berlin Airlift

    The Blockade and Berlin Airlift
    The Blockade and Berlin Airlift was one of the first events of the Cold War. The Soviets moves to block the US from reaching parts of Berlin in hopes to make the US give up the city. The US responds with the Berlin Airlift, all supplies for the entire city were flown in for 11 months forcing the Soviets to give up on the Blockade. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.
  • Chinese Civil War

    Chinese Civil War
    The Chinese Nationalists were led by Chang Kai-Sheik and the communists were led by Mao Zedong. Communists defeat the nationalists in 1949 because the nationalists were outnumbered. The U.S did nothing even though the nationalists asked for help. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.

    Germany after WWII
    Germany separates into two separate countries. They separated because they can't have too much power. The east was the communist country and the west was the democratic country.
  • Rivalry between the USSR and USA

    Rivalry between the USSR and USA
    A rivalry developed between the USSR and the US because of influence and control in Europe's rebuild. They both wanted to establish governments of their own kind in rebuilt countries. The Soviets wanted to create communist countries under Stalin's leadership. The US wanted democratic countries with elections. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    Communist North invaded South Korea. The UN Force deployed to protect the south, led by the US. The US fights to stop communist takeover, but not to remove communism from the North. The fighting went on for three years until a stalemate was reached and both boarders remained the same. Taken from Mr. Dickeys notes.
  • NATO and Warsaw Pact

    NATO and Warsaw Pact
    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization and it was designed to provide security for member nations. It also states that if one country is attacked then the other supporting countries will all help out. In response, the USSR creates the Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw Pact outnumbered NATO troops. Both sides develop a large number of nuclear weapons. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis also known as the October Crisis of 1962 was a 13 day confrontation between the US and USSR started by the discovery of missiles in the USSR. It was the closest thing to a nuclear war.
  • The Space Race

    The Space Race
    The term Space Race refers to the 1955-1975 race between the Soviets and The US to see who could get into space first. The US won when in 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon however, the Soviets were the first ones to enter space.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War began in 1954 between North Vietnamese and the French. The French were defeated by the communists and the communists were in position to take over all of Vietnam. North forces were led by Ho Chi Minh, supported by the USSR and China. Taken from Mr. Dickey's notes.
