In '47 Greece and Turkey was in danger of becoming communist. Truman decided to give aid to any Nation that needed it to prevent communism. It then became known as Truman Doctrine. -
Marshall Plan
Europe was destroyed by the war. George Marshall created the "recovery plan for Europe." The plan was offered to all nations. The plan was a great success as Europe recovered. -
Berlin Aircraft
Germany and its capatail Berlin was split. The Soviets blockaded Berlin in hopes to control it. The U.S. decided to airlift supplies for the city by plane rather than backing down. The airlift laster about a year and brought over 2 million tons of supplies. -
NATO
North Atlantic Treaty Organization was the end of U.S. isolationism as we partnered with Western Europe. It was signed by Dean Acheson. United States, UK, France, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Italy was all in the treaty. -
Korean War
Korean split along the 38th parallel. Nothern Communist invaded the south in 1950. War starts when UN "police action" to repel the communist aggression. China enters war on side of North Korea. -
Warsaw Pact
It united the communist nations. Eight Communist states in the Eastern part of Europe was subscribed by them. The Warsaw Pact was known as a reponce towards the Nato pact. -
Sputnik
The Sputnik satellite started the space race. It was the first satallite in Earths orbit by Soviet Union. This created a issue for U.S. it was then known as the Sputnik Crisis for the U.S. because the race to the moon then began. -
Bay of Pigs
Cuban exiles to try to overthrow Castro. Bay of pigs was a military opperation. U.S. gives exiles military aid. The attack at the Bay of Pigs was a fail. The event embarressed The U.S. and Kennedy. -
Berlin Wall
Millions of East Germans moved west. Soviets wanted Germany to be regonized as a new nation. It was built seperate. Seen as a symbol of communism. The wasll was torn down. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviets place missiles in Cuba. U.S spy planes get intelligence. If they sent bombs from Cuba and U.S, would be at war with Soviet Union. Kennedy demanded removal. US blockades cuba at this point. -
Gulf of Tonkin
Known as USS Maddox. It was a sea battle between the Navy torpedo boats. This event involved North Vietnam,U.S.,and Gulf of Tonkin. Maddox had been performing a signals intelligence patrol as part of DESOTO operations that involved North Vietnam.
