    Was known formally as the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. Law that provided college or vocational education for returning World War II veterans as well as one year of unemployment compensation. Since the original act, the term has come to include other veteran benefit programs created to assist veterans of subsequent wars as well as peacetime service.
  • Truman Doctorine

    Was a Policy by President Truman brought out in a Speech on the date above. The Truman Doctorine stated that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Communism. The policy won the support of Republicans who controlled Congress so it was a good move by Truman

    Marshall Plan
    Was an american program to aid Europe and help rebiuld their economy so they wouldnt fall under communism. A major address by Secretary of State George Marshall was planned. Marshall gave the address to the graduating class of Harvard University on June 5, 1947.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Was the Plan to have Aircrafts fly supplies to Berlin Because Russia was blocking off roads into Berlin. We had military and civilians in West Berlin who were being deprived. They required 1,534 tons of supplies a day so that citizens could cook, eat, and warm their homes. At the height of the Berlin Airlift, British and American pilots were landing aircraft in Berlin every three minutes all day.

    Stands for The North Atlantic Treaty Organization. They were an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The Nato headquarters is in Burssell , Belgium where the treaty of Brussell was signed making the Nato.

    Was a war between South Korea and North Korea. South Korea was supported by the U.S, and North Korea was supported by the Soviet Union. The result was a physical division of Korea along the 38th parrallel.

    The Warsaw Pact, was a mutual defense treaty subscribed to by eight communist states in Eastern Europe. It was also know as the Warsaw Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance. the Warsaw Pact was dominated by the desire to prevent, at all costs, the recurrence of an invasion of Russian soil like Napolean and Hitler did.

    Was the first artificial satelite to be put into earht's atmosphere. America never anticipated this and made the ARPA in response to the lainch of Sputnik. This group put some of the best minds together and made the first succesful satelite of the U.S. in 18months.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Was a botched invasion of Cuba to overthrow Fidel Castro by Cuban exiles and the U.S. The original invasion plan called for two air strikes against Cuban air bases and a 1,400-man invasion force. The whole operation was a failure and a dissapointment for the U.S.

    It was known as the October crisis in Cuba. After the failed attack on cuba the Cuban and Soviet goverment started making missle bases for medium range and intermediate range ballistics. the U.S. found out about this and made them take them down. A strike on the U.S. would have caused WW3!

    Was an incident between the U.S. and Korean Naval forces. The second Tonkin Gulf incident was claimed by the U.S. National Security Agency to have happened on August 4, 1964, as another sea battle, but instead may have involved false radar images and not actual NVN torpedo boat attacks. These events brought sbout the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall symbolized the communist border between Western and Eastern Germany But on this day the Border separating Western from Eastern Germany was effectively opened. The falling of the wall was used to symbolize the end of the cold war.
