    In the year of 1859 Monet goes to Paris, the artistic capital of the world, in order to pursue his studies. His father wanted him to go to Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the official state school of art. Instead, Monet went to Atelier Suisse and because of his obediance towards his father, his father cut his allowance.     In the year of 1870 Claude Monet marries Camille, his 1st wife. Also, later this year war broke out between France and Prussia so Monet moved with his son to England. He had to do this because he wanted to avoid having to fight. In London Monet met French-picture dealer Paul Durand Ruel.     Claude Monet creates the painting "Impression: Sunrise"
    Monet created "Impression: Sunrise" which would become one of the most important paintings of all time. Monet painted this during his short visit to Le Harve, in the spring of 1873. This landscpe painting appeared in the first ever impressionist exhibition. It also gave the name to the first exhinition and to the entire art movement of impressionism.     First Impressionist Exhibition
    The first ever Impressionist Exhibition opened on April 15, 1874 under the title of "Anonymous Co-operative Society of Artists". Monet decided to accomplish this idea proposed by Jean Frederic Bazille. The idea was to organize an independent exhibition of like-minded painters. 30 painters took place in the exhibition and had 160 total paintings, 10 of which were Monet's.     Monet Marries Alice Horschede
    Before Alice married Monet, she was the wife of a collector of Impressionist paintings. Monet begun an affair with Alice in 1876. Alice nursed Camille, she looked after the children and assumed monet's debts. They eventually got married in 1892 after she became widow.     Monet Suffers from Cataracts
    As Monets eyesight worsened, his works turned from fresh colours to blurred visions of heavy browns and reds. It was after Monet painted Water-Lily Pond his problems were recognized and he was diagnosed with cataracts. He underwent two surgeries for his cataratcs before he died.     On December 5, 1926, Monet died due to lung cancer at Giverny and was buried beside the small village church. Monet described his aim as being "to render my impressions on front of the most fleeting effects", words he could have equally used at any time of hisd life.
