Timeline to the Civil war

  • The Northwest Ordinance

    This was made in order to create a faster way to annex new states into our country. It made later additions to the us far smoother than before
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    Passed in 1798, these laws were set up to regulate news and information about the president, as well as to regulate the influx of Immigrants that were moving to the United states at the time
  • Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions

    Made in response to the Alien and Sedition acts, this resolution declared that in no way, shape, or form, did the federal government have the right to exercise powers that were not strictly listed as their own.
  • Marbury v. madison

    this court case established the right of the Judicial branch to enact Judicial review to see whether or not a law was truly constitutional or not.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    This piece of land was bought from france in 1803
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    A document made in response to European countries attempting to re-colonize parts of north and south america. Was rendered useless until president Teddy Roosevelt became president.
  • The Nullification crisis

    an argument between South Carolina and the Federal Government about nullification of Federal Legislature.
  • Texas Annexation

    The Texas annexation involved the addition of Texas as our 28th state. This later lead to the Mexican-American War
  • Oregon Treaty

    This treaty sets the modern-day boundary between Canada and the USA at the 49th Parallel
  • Mexican Cession

    Caused by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, this includes much of the modern day south-west United states. Completed the idea of Manifest destiny
