  • Bleeding Kansas

    An act of violence by John Brown in order to aid the end of slavery. Brown and some followers murdered five other slavery supporters nearby Potawatomie Creek ultimately giving this time era the name of “Bleeding Kansas”
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott, whom was a slave that moved to Illinois to live with his master ended up claiming freedom once Illinois became a free state and his master passed away. Although, his masters widow claimed that he now belonged to her which caused conflict in the justice system and was brought all the way to the Supreme Court in where the final decision resulted in Dred Scott losing the case.
  • Harpers Ferry Raid

    John Brown, his sons and two followers tried to capture an important supply of weapons in order to aid the end of slavery by giving the skates a chance to revolt. His goal was to start a slave rebellion in West Virginia
  • Lincoln Becomes President

    Abraham Lincoln was elected as president while only receiving 40% of the vote. His election angered the southerners because they knew his beliefs on slavery and feared he would end the expansion of slavery.
  • South Secedes

    After the election and inauguration of Abraham Lincoln as president. The southern states seceded and withdrew themselves from the United States of America and began to call themselves the Confederate States of America.
